Commenced in the 9th century, the Moorish design has evolved under different rule and the vast complex now composes of gardens, fountains, streams, palaces, courts, halls, and a mosque, enclosed by a fortified wall and 13 massive towers.

In northern Spain is Bilbao, site of the famous Guggenheim museum, displaying contemporary art. The building is one of the most important modern architectural works of the 20th century.

Pamplona, famous for the fiesta of San Fermin in July, a weeklong street festival of which the highlight is the 'encierro' ,with its daredevil bull running.
