Zurich

Basel

Basel is Switzerland's oldest university city, and a major cultural centre with many internationally renowned museums, galleries and playhouses attracting many visitors. Historic landmarks of the city include the large market square with its richly decorated red sandstone town hall and the late Romanesque-Gothic cathedral.

The yearly Fasnacht (Carnival) is a huge 3 day party celebration in Basel with costumes, music and fun on the streets, and a huge attraction for visitors.

The charming countryside of the Basel region is especially beautiful in spring with blossoming cherry trees. Germany and France, the Black Forest and Vosges Mountains are also close by.
