Do I Need Travel Insurance?

There are often claims under most sections of the policy, the larger claims generally coming from:

medical section (both accidents and sickness)

lost or stolen or damaged luggage (mainly cameras or spectacles)

cancellation fees

In the past, our claims have included:

Australia - Evacuation of a premature baby - $90,000 evacuation costs plus additional expenses of $16,860

China - Evacuation of a seriously ill patient - $355,000

USA - Kidney Infection requiring urgent treatment - $29,000

Thailand - Food Poisoning – $20,000

Australia - Broken leg - $14,000

Intensive care wards can cost $4500 per day - a surgery room can cost $3500 / Hour plus surgeons fees, plus, plus. The Reciprocal health agreements in Australia & the UK do not cover ambulance, specialist care, prescriptions, repatriation or private hospital costs (public hospital delays may necessitate you being treated in a private hospital). These agreements also do not cover the basic cost of a GP visit.

Cancellation fees can be up to 100 % - example a cancellation claim of $30,359 was paid due to the Iceland Volcano

Lost or stolen luggage - How much would it cost to replace your clothes, camera, video camera etc - claims of $5,000- $10,000 are not uncommon.
